Traditional
Web Development Process
Creating effective Web sites
requires designing pages that have an appealing ‘look and
feel,’ are easy to navigate, and contain relevant,
up-to-date content. Traditionally, the role of Web site
development, content maintenance, and content delivery has
been relegated to Web developers. Additionally, content
changes are typically made in a Web development code, such as
HTML, and thus require the expertise of specialists
experienced in Web development technologies. Relatively minor
or administrative content changes, such as a new area code,
require companies or Web page owners to hire Web developers
for simple changes in text.

This creates a situation where the Web master is a bottleneck in the process of updating and maintaining Web site content. Content providers submit content changes to the Web master who would then make the changes to the Web server.
